What are Dermal Fillers and what are They Made From?

Dermal fillers are made from various substances that are used to inject certain areas of the face or body to removes wrinkles. Rather, they are more for soft folds and lines than actual deep wrinkles. The filler material stays under the skin and its effect is to plump up underneath the skin so that the volume is restored, rather like placing a tiny cushion there.

This type of treatment is ideal for certain facial lines and folds such as are found in the cheeks. It can also be used on the back of the hands to reduce the appearance of prominent veins and the décolleté to plump up the skin and remove sagging. It is also used to restore fullness to the lips or restore symmetry where the lips have become unbalanced. It can be used just along the outline of the lips or to give more volume within the lip area.

So what is the ingredient in dermal fillers? They can be made of natural or synthetic substances. Generally speaking they contain synthetic hyaluronic acid. This is a substance that occurs naturally in the skin of both humans and animals in its real form. It is plentiful in younger people, but gradually disappears over time as we age and its loss causes wrinkles and lines. They can also be made of other ingredients.

On very rare occasions there may be an allergic reaction to dermal fillers, but they can be dissolved if necessary. Filler ingredients are of varying thicknesses and which one is the most suitable to use on your face will be decided by the doctor. Much depends on just how deep those wrinkles are.

Just like Botox injections, dermal fillers will usually require repeated applications as the body gradually absorbs the filler. Some last for six months; others may last for eighteen months. It depends on how much was used and the type of skin you have. Often repeat injections have a longer-lasting effect.

Some people find that the injections hurt a little more than Botox, but usually a topical anaesthetic is used to reduce this problem. Any swelling usually is resolved within a few days and patients can often go about their usual work routine straight away. This depends on just what was done and where. In some cases of lip treatment there is swelling that is more noticeable. Any redness is easily covered with make-up.

Two Methods of Removing Crows Feet for a More Youthful Look

Women who want to cheat Father Time and keep their faces looking more youthful will often seek cosmetic treatment to remove wrinkles such as crow’s feet – those wrinkles seen at the outer corner of the eyes. This can be done without invasive surgery and is the choice of most women, in consultation with a skin care professional, of course. Who would opt for surgery if there was another way?

To more fully understand treatment for these kinds of facial wrinkles you need to also understand how they are formed and why they are visible. Facial wrinkles form when the muscles of the skin thicken and sag, often due to the lack of collagen underneath the outer layer of skin. Skin folds form and light casts a shadow into the crevices. It is this shadow that makes crows feet so noticeable.

The treatment involves lifting the crevices so they are level with the surrounding skin, thus eliminating the shadow. This is done by making tiny injections of dermal filler – there are several types of this substance on the market. Most contain a natural gel-like substance known as hyaluronic acid, a substance that occurs naturally in the body making it very safe to use. This fills out the depressions caused by those loose muscles and so firms the skin. The treatment lasts for some months.

When considering facial treatment for wrinkles most people these days would immediately think of Botox, but this is not a dermal filler as such. While it is injected into the face, it works by blocking the release of the chemical that is responsible for transmitting movement signals to the muscles. The muscle contractions will therefore become weaker and this eliminates the wrinkles that are caused by muscle movement.

Both treatments help to remove wrinkles temporarily, but which one is best for your skin type should be discussed with your cosmetician.

Non-Surgical Facelift and Why it is Better than Surgery

Once, the only way to get rid of those signs of aging such as wrinkles and loose skin was to have cosmetic surgery. This procedure always carried with it a certain amount of danger, since having anaesthetic and surgery is a major invasion of the body. The results often left people with a frozen look that was highly artificial, even if it was preferable to wrinkles.

These days surgery is usually the last resort because there are many other forms of less-invasive treatment to correct facial problems. Who would choose to go into hospital for several days and have their skin actually cut off and sewn up if there was another way to achieve the same result?

Very often the facial problem only affects a part of a person’s face. It might be frown lines on the forehead, crow’s feet at the outer corners of the eyes or vertical lines around the mouth. There are many procedures that can be used to aid such problems and they do not require you to go through surgery and spend days in hospital recovering.

Botox injections, dermal fillers and micro-dermabrasion are all procedures that will help people to regain their youthful looks by smoothing out wrinkles and creases. Lip augmentation is particularly effective in making a person look younger. Vertical lines around the mouth and lips are rather horrible, especially when they deepen, and this procedure can help them to be less visible.

However, as we age our lips often seem to become thinner and give us a rather grim look even if there are no wrinkles. Lip augmentation takes the wrinkles out of the actual lip area and makes the lips appear fuller and more sensual. There are several ways by which this can be achieved from injections of fat harvested from your own body, to dermal fillers or Botox injection to using lip implants that are not absorbed into the body and so last forever.
